Kevin Johnson/Staff ESTERO — After generating a memorable campaign that included conference, district, regional and state championships, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Estero High cross country program wanted last season to last forever. “A perfect day” and “the highlight of my career” is how Estero’s longtime coach Jeff Sommer recalled that glorious November morning in Dade City when the Wildcats stamped an exclamation point to their season by capturing two team state titles and one individual championship. But nearly in the same breath as those fond recollections, Sommer didn’t hesitate to declare that “last year is over” as he chatted following the boys and girls’ teams grueling workout session last Thursday afternoon.
